WIM VAN GEMERT

Prof. dr. Wim G. van Gemert was born on the 3rd of May 1963 in The Netherlands. After high school, he went to the University in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, to study medicine, followed by his training as a general and gastrointestinal surgeon in Maastricht, Netherlands. He received his certification in 1998 and started his training for pediatric surgery in Amsterdam, which was successfully finished in 2000. After that he had several staff positions for colorectal and pediatric surgery.

From 2015 he is head of the department of pediatric surgery in Maastricht UMC+ in The Netherlands and the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen in Germany. We are striving to realize an Euregional network for the surgical care of children (Maastricht, Aachen, Liège). One of our medical focusses is the development and implementation of innovative and minimal invasive techniques in pediatric surgery, including robot-assisted procedures.
