Risto Rintala is the Emeritus Professor of Pediatric Surgery in Children’s Hospital, University of Helsinki. His research interests have for decades been in the long-term outcomes of congenital disorders, especially esophageal atresia, Hirschsprung’s disease and anorectal malformations. Professor Rintala is in the editorial board of the most important pediatric surgical journals. He has published 274 peer reviewed original articles, has edited 5 pediatric surgical textbooks and more than 50 surgical and pediatric surgical textbook chapters. The international awards that Professor Rintala has received for his scientific and clinical achievements include the Denis Browne Gold medal from BAPS, Matti Sulamaa-medal, Fritz Rehbein-medal from EUPSA and Red Cross award from the State of Estonia. His free time interests include sailing, bird watching and off piste-skiing.
