Prof. Morelli is a general surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at University of Pisa.
Currently he is Chief of the General Surgery Unit of the University Hospital of Pisa, and Director of the American College of Surgeons accredited Educational Institute (ACS-AEI), EndoCAS (www.endocas.org), the only Italian simulation center with these credentials so far.
He is Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (FASCRS). In 2018 he obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor of Surgery.
His activity is particularly focused on oncologic surgery and minimally invasive surgery.
The surgical practice consists of more than 5000 surgical procedures as first operator including major oncologic surgery, organ procurement for transplants (liver, pancreas and kidney), advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery with particular interest for colorectal, HBP, upper GI and uro-gynecologic oncologic surgery.
Since 1999, he has written more than 400 scientific publications on several topics such as transplants, surgical oncology, interventional ultrasound, simulation, laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
He is also the President of Arpa Foundation (www.fondazionearpa.it), a non-profit organization finalized to support research and training in the medical field.
