Dr. Charles Evans is the Head of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. As an experienced consultant colorectal and general surgeon, he is a national leader and international trainer in robotic surgery, specialising in the treatment of cancer and non-cancerous bowel conditions plus abdominal wall and groin hernias.
Dr. Evans undertook basic surgical training in London and was awarded an MD from the University of London following research into colorectal cancer and minimally invasive surgery. He undertook higher surgical training at the Oxford Deanery following which he was selected for the National Ethicon Fellowship in Advanced Colorectal Surgery. He completed his training with a further fellowship in complex colorectal surgery at St Mark's Hospital, London.
Dr. Evans is committed to the development, research and training of colorectal surgery. He is the current chair of The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland’s robotic committee and a member of the RCS (England) Robotics and Digital Surgery Network. He helps to guide and develop national research and training whilst also supervising innovative research projects working alongside industry and Warwick University.
Since 2019 Dr. Evans has been a proctor in robotic surgery for Intuitive Surgical. Across Europe, South Africa and the UK, he has trained colorectal surgeons as they commence robotic surgery and then later when they are developing their robotic skills to perform more advance cases. This includes lectures, webinars leading cadaveric courses, performing live case observations and onsite proctoring.
