Pietro Mascagni is a surgical resident with a passion for image-guided surgery and computer science. During his fellowship at IHU-Strasbourg/IRCAD (France), Pietro worked on robotic flexible endoscopy, intraoperative imaging, and simulation training. In a Ph.D. spent between Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Rome, Italy) and the IHU-Strasbourg (France), Pietro was supported by a EAES grant to perform surgical data science studies aimed at promoting safe laparoscopic cholecystectomy. To this end, the work within the CAMMA research group led to the development of AI-based solutions to automatically assess and video document the critical view of safety. Pietro is currently working on translational studies and collaborating with EAES, SAGES and the Global Surgical AI Collaborative (GSAC) to promote surgical AI of clinical value.
