Head of the 1st Gastroenterology Department at the Center for Digestive Disease and Liver Transplantation;

Coordinator of the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Digestive Endoscopy Laboratory, Fundeni Clinical Institute, Bucharest, Romania.

Education: Graduated medicine at the „Carol Davila” University in 1984, then specialized in internal medicine and gastroenterology, 1994;

Assistant Professor, 1997;

Senior physician in gastroenterology, 1996; 

PhD degree with the thesis “Portal Hypertensive Gastropathy”  2005;

Associate Professor, 2011;

Full Profesor of Gastroenterology at the „Carol Davila“ University 2013;

Habilitation Thesis „Perspectives in diagnosis and therapeutic digestive endoscopy”.

President of the Romanian Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (SRED): 2009-2011 and 2017-2019;

ESGE delegate in the European Union of Medical Specialities  (EUMS) in United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF) for Continuos Medical Education (CME) 2009-2011;

2012-2014 President of the Association of Romanian Pancreatic Pathology (APPR) and (now) Honorary president of APPR;

President of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (SRGH) 2019-2022;

President of the Romanian Society of Coloproctology 2022-2024;

President of the Gastroenterology Committee of the Romanian College of Physicians.

 

Expertise: Advanced endoscopy: polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), ERCP, EUS; the diagnosis and treatment of digestive tumors (part of the multidisciplinary team and tumor board), IBD, pancreatic and hepatic disorders.

Endoscopic priorities in Romania: EMR for esophageal and gastric tumors, endoscopic band ligation for variceal bleeding, standardized balloon dilation for achalasia, argon plasma coagulation (APC) for radiation proctitis, endomicroscopy.


Educational activity: promoter, organizer, and president of many national and international meetings; coordinator (since 2001) of annual national courses of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy with hands-on activities which are included in the gastrointestinal and surgical curricula for exams.


Scientific activity:

Original articles published in ISI indexed journals: 200; among which the first epidemiological studies of IBD and celiac diseases in Romania, and the first registry of FAP and pouchities.

Guest speaker roles in International conferences over the last 5 years: 30;  book chapters: 100;

Participation as director in national and international research programs: 21 including as National coordinator of the European  Pilot Programme for the Screening of Colorectal Cancer in Romania; over 5000 citations; h-index: 34.
