Adrian SĂFTOIU

Professor Adrian Săftoiu, MD, PhD, MSc, FASGE, AGAF has a long standing expertise as a senior gastroenterologist, being the Chief of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Elias Emergency University Hospital Bucharest, University of Medicine and Pharmacy ”Carol Davila” Bucharest, Romania. Prof. Săftoiu graduated in 1995 in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Craiova, followed by specializations in internal medicine (2000) and gastroenterology (2002). He acted from 2005 to 2022 as the Scientific Director of the Research Center of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Craiova, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Craiova, Romania.

Prof. Săftoiu has received intensive training in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, with emphasis on endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), in several centers, including University Hospital Aarhus and Gentofte University Hospital, Denmark. Short-term training in confocal endomicroscopy took place at Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. Also, a telemedicine training of 4 months took place at the East-West Space Sciences Center, Computer and Space Sciences Buildig, University of Maryland at College Park, USA. From September 2012, Prof. Săftoiu holds a position of Visiting Clinical Professor at the Department of Endoscopy, Copenhagen University Herlev Hospital, Denmark. Also, from 2017, Prof. Săftoiu holds a position of Visiting Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA.

Prof. Săftoiu is member of several scientific societies in Romania and abroad, including the Executive Board of the European Federation of Societies of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) and World Federation of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB), European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), Fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (FASGE) and American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF).
