I am Alexandru Eugen Nicolau, surgeon at the Emergency Clinical Hospital Bucharest (ECHB).
I was born in Rm. Sărat on 28/10/1953 in a family of doctors, my mother a gynaecologist, my father a surgeon.
I graduated from UMF Cluj-Napoca in 1978, and from 1977 to 1980 I was a surgical intern by competitive examination. After an apprenticeship as a dispensary doctor, I came third (out of 540) in the Residency Examination in 1981, obtaining a post at CEHB.
Resident at the surgical clinics of Fundeni Hospital and CEHB. Specialist since 1984, primary care physician since 1991.
After surgical internships, including laparoscopic, in Belgium and Switzerland in 1992, I won as project director a video-imaging laparoscopy line in 1993, with which I performed the first laparoscopic cholecystectomies starting on 6 December 1993.
Given the profile of the clinic, I was concerned with laparoscopic emergency surgery, gastroesophageal reflux disease, parietal surgery, etc. My PhD thesis in 2001, "Emergency laparoscopic surgery", based mainly on personal case reports, was published as an original monograph in 2004. I have participated in the congresses of the Romanian Society of Surgery with papers presented since 1979. I have been a member of EAES since 1995, with numerous participations with presentations, but also as lecturer and chairman, ESTES since 2007.
I have published 46 articles as first author, and in 5 I am co-author. Out of 43 articles on emergency laparoscopy published in the journal "Chirurgia" until 2020, 12 belong to me. I have participated in the elaboration of chapters in 12 textbooks and books. I was co-organizer of the first course with international participation "Laparoscopy in the Acute Abdomen", Iași, 2009.
