Dr. Lorenzo A. Menicanti MDDr. Menicanti is the Director of the Cardiac Surgery Departmnet and Scientific Director of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato University Hospital in Milan, Italy. Since 1989, he has operated over 16,000 patients. Dr. Menicanti is a member of the editorial board of several scientific journals: Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine, Giornale Italiano di Cardiologia, Indian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and International Journal of Cardiology. He is president of the Italian Cardiology Network and was President of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery. His main interest is related to the surgical treatment of ischemic heart failure and the treatment of coronary and valvular heart disease. He originally developed a method of left ventricular reconstruction after acute myocardial infarction, which is the basis of the currently most widely used type of surgical ventricular reconstruction. He is the author of 200 peer-reviewed articles published in international journals. He is currently a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery, Belgian Association for Cardio-Thoracic and Florida Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons.
