Dr. Horatiu Moldovan is a cardiovascular surgeon with an interest in developing models to study biomaterial-tissue interactions. He has a doctorate in science and medicine (MD, PhD,) from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest. Since 2007 he is Associated Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at the same university and currently at Titu Maiorescu University in Bucharest, Romania. Since 2016 is Associated Professor of Cardiovascular Biomaterials at the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Faculty of Science and Engineering of Materials. He was senior cardiovascular surgeon for over 25 years and the last 10 years, Head of the 1st Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at C. C. Iliescu Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery, Fundeni Hospital. Currently is Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at SANADOR Hospital in Bucharest.
He is author/coauthor of 72 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has made more than 200 presentations to scientific meetings worldwide. In his career he was referent for 6 PhD thesis in the field of cardiovascular surgery.
Dr. Horatiu Moldovan is Full Member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences since 2016. He is Vice - President of the Romanian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery and member of the European Society of Cardiothoracic surgery (EACTS) since 2009 and the European Society of Cardiovascular Surgery (ESCVS) since 2000. He is also member of the Romanian Society of Biomaterials since 2016, Full Member of Romanian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery since 1998, Associated member of the Romanian Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology, Full member of the Society of Flebectomy, Associated Member of the Society of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Extracorporeal Technology since 2009.
He is a former Associate Editor of the Romanian Journal of Cardiovascular surgery.
Dr. Horatiu Moldovan is Member of the Board of the Medical College of Bucharest and the technical Commission of Cardiovascular Surgery of the Ministry of Health. His professional and scientific activity comprises of: research in the fields of cardiovascular surgery and biomaterials with application in cardiovascular surgery. During the past years his work has involved valvular prosthesis, vascular prosthesis and bioadhesives in cooperation with the Univesity Politehnica of Bucharest.
