I am Professor of Anesthesiology
and Critical Care Medicine at “Gabriele d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara, and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at SS.

I graduated in Anesthesiology and
Critical Care Medicine (cum laude) from the University of Bari, Italy, and
obtained a Ph.D. in Respiratory Physiology (cum laude) at the Paris XII
University. I worked first as a senior physician, then as Assistant Professor
in the General ICU of the Agostino Gemelli Hospital, Catholic University of
Rome, Italy. Since 2015, I was Associate Professor and, since 2018, I am Professor
at the "Gabriele d'Annunzio" University of Chieti-Pescara, working at
the SS. Annunziata Hospital of Chieti, Italy. Since 2020, I am the Chair of the
Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine of the same hospital.
My professional career has been
involved in several research programs focusing on acute respiratory failure,
respiratory mechanics, invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support, the
cardiovascular effects of mechanical ventilation, and ethics in intensive care.
I published more than 130 peer-reviewed papers, reviews, editorials and book
chapters on these subjects. I have been honored with several awards from
national and international scientific societies and I am regularly invited at
the main international meetings in critical care medicine.
I am Member of the European
Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), the European Society of
Anesthesiology (ESA), and the Italian Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care
(SIAARTI). I was Chair of the Acute Respiratory Failure and Respiratory Support
Section of SIAARTI, I have been a former Deputy Editor of the journal “Intensive
Care Medicine”, and Chair of the ESICM Editorial and Publishing Committee and Member
of the ESICM Executive Committee from 2011 to 2014. I am President of the
Italian College of Professors of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine and
the Chair-Elect of the Congress Committee of ESICM.
