LEONARD AZAMFIREI

Leonard Azamfirei is a Professor of Anesthesia - Intensive Care, Head of the Anesthesia - Intensive Care Discipline and Rector of the “George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology in Târgu Mureş. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Critical Care Medicine.

He founded the Simulation and Practical Skills Center of the “George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology in Târgu Mureş, promoting the implementation of modern training methods including medical simulation, the use of virtual reality in medical training, as well as digitalization.

He initiated new university study programs, including medical engineering, artificial intelligence, information technology and bioinformatics.

He is a member of the Senate of the Romanian Society of Anesthesia - Intensive Care (SRATI), President of the Romanian Foundation of Anesthetic Education (FRATI) and of the Romanian Society of Applied Simulation in Medicine. He is also a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences.

At the national level he is the Vice-President of the National Council of Rectors of Romania, Vice-President of the Romanian Senate and member of the Health Commission and the Education Commission of the Romanian Senate.
