Dr. Dragoș Bumbăcea is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Pneumology and Acute Respiratory Care at Elias Emergency University Hospital and “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest, Romania. He has been educated in different domains of respiratory diseases at “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest, Imperial College London and University Paris Descartes. He founded the first Acute Respiratory Care Unit in Romania at Elias Hospital, intended to care for patients with acute respiratory failure. He is the coordinator of the Pneumology team from the Lung Transplant Program at “Saint Mary” Clinical Hospital Bucharest, where the first lung transplants in Romania have been performed. Domains of excellence: severe airway diseases, acute and chronic respiratory failure, respiratory infections in immunocompromised patients, lung transplantation. He is profoundly interested in medical education, mostly in assessment, and is currently Head of the Examination Committee for Adult Respiratory Medicine Diploma organized by the European Respiratory Society.
