Current position: Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the ”Carol Davila”, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Head of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department at the Centre for Digestive Disease and Liver Transplantation and Medical Coordinator of the Liver Transplant Program at Fundeni Clinical Institute, Bucharest.
Education: Graduated in medicine at the University of Medicine in Craiova in 1985, then specialized in internal medicine and gastroenterology in 1991 at the ”Carol Davila”, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest.
Medical and academic career: Senior Physician in Gastroenterology, 1997; Head of the 3rd Gastroenterology Dept. (Gastroenterology - Hepatology) at Fundeni Clinical Hospital, 2002; Assistant Professor, 1993; PhD degree in Medical Genetics with the PhD Thesis: "Genetic Implications in Colorectal Cancer," 1996; Associate Professor, 2007; Transplant Medicine Honorary Diploma (European Certification in Liver Transplantation, Transplant Medicine, Modules 1 & 4), 2013; Habilitation Thesis: "Clinical Research in Hepatology: An Investment in Patients and Community Benefit," 2014; Full Professor of Gastroenterology at „Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, 2015.
Professional & administrative leadership/positions: President of the Romanian Association for Liver Diseases (RoALD) (current); President of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (SRGH) (2024-2026); Member of the Scientific Council of the National Transplant Agency, Ministry of Health; Member of the SRGH Board (2005-present); Member of the Expert Committee for the Treatment of Viral Hepatitis and Treatment with Biological Agents in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases at the National House of Health Insurance (2009-2010); President of The Romanian Crohn and Colitis Club (RCCC) (2013-2015); Member of the EASL Eastern European Concerted Action Group (EE-CAG) (2012-2018); UEG representative for the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (2020-current); EASL Governing Board Commissioner for the EASL Lancet Commission on Liver Disease in Europe (2023).
