Ekaterine Berishvili is the head of the Laboratory of Tissue Engineering and Organ Regeneration at the University of Geneva and the Director of the Cell Isolation and Transplantation Center, Department of Surgery, University of Geneva Hospitals. Additionally, she serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine, School of Medicine, Ilia State University, Tbilisi, Georgia. Her primary areas of expertise lie in cell-based therapies for type 1 diabetes, immune tolerance induction strategies, and tissue engineering. Dr. Berishvili has received substantial funding from SNF, H2020, and JDRF. She has received the STS Excellence Award from the Swiss Transplantation Society and the EPITA Award from the European Society for Organ Transplantation.
Dr. Berishvili is a board member of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) and the Cell Transplant and Regenerative Medicine Society (CTRMS). Additionally, she actively contributes to various scientific committees, such as the JDRF Beta Cell Replacement Consortium, and holds an editorial board position at Transplant International as an associate editor.
