CRISTIAN LUPAȘCU

Professor Cristian Lupașcu received his medical degree from “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine Iași in 1987.

He became a specialist doctor in general surgery in 1993 and senior surgeon in 1998 at the Surgical Department of “Sf. Spiridon” University Hospital from Iași, Romania.

He was promoted to Assistant Professor at the aforementioned medical university in 2000, where he had received his PhD in 1999.

Professor Cristian Lupașcu has trained in the field of general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, oncologic surgery and hepato-bilio-pancreatic surgery and liver transplantation in Lyon, Paris and Strasbourg (France), Brussels and Louvain (Belgium) Basel (Switzerland), Berlin (Germany), Leyden (The Netherlands), Warsaw (Poland) and Bucharest (Romania) for several years.

He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005 and subsequently appointed full Professor of Surgery at the “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iași in 2014.

Since 2016, Prof. Lupașcu and his team started a program of multiorgan retrieval from cerebral death-DBD donors and liver transplantation within the “Sf. Spiridon” University Hospital Iași.

His surgical area of interest is mostly the hepato-bilio-pancreatic, liver transplantation and oncologic surgery.

Currently, Prof. Lupașcu is Head of the HPB and Liver Transplantation Department of “Sf. Spiridon” University Hospital Iași, the Vice-President of the Romanian Association of Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation and “Romtransplant” Association.

He also serves as a member on the Board of the Romanian Society of Surgeons and is the National Representative in UEMS (Brussels), Division of Transplantation.

Prof. Lupașcu is a Corresponding member of the Romanian National Medical Academy and of the Romanian National Academy of Scientists.
