CĂTĂLIN COPĂESCU

Prof. Cătălin Copăescu is currently a Consultant General & GI Surgeon, a Bariatric & Metabolic Surgeon, Head of the General Surgery Department and Director of Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence at PONDERAS ACADEMIC Hospital in Bucharest, Romania.

He is also the Executive Director of the Bucharest Surgical Training Institute and an Associated Professor of the “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iași, Romania.

With a 25 years’ experience in MIS, as a GI & Metabolic Surgeon Prof. Copăescu performs over 700 procedures per year, mostly laparoscopic and robotic assisted, pioneering and developing metabolic surgery, laparoscopic colorectal surgery, laparoscopic hernia, GERD, SILS and NOTES in Romania.

He has been involved in 23 grants and has published 133 original papers, 24 books or chapters in surgical books (author or coauthor) and has delivered 420 lectures in different symposia and congresses.

He is an active member in the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (President of the 23rd EAES Congress), the United European Gastrology, IFSO-EC, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), the International Associations of Surgeons Gastroenterologists and Oncologists (IASGO), the European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism - (ESPEN), the Society for Minimally Invasive Therapy (SMIT E.V.), the Romanian Society of Surgery.

Prof. Copăescu is a co-founding member in the Romanian Association of Endoscopic Surgery, in the Romanian Association of Bariatric Surgery and in the Foundation for Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic Surgery.
