PD Dr. Nickel is a board-certified senior attending surgeon at Heidelberg University Hospital specialized in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery for upper gastrointestinal and pancreatic diseases. His scientific focus is minimally invasive and robotic surgery, digital surgical technology, surgical training, intraoperative imaging and artificial intelligence. He is an active member of the Technology Committee of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons where he leads the committee on Artificial intelligence in Surgery.
