PhD in Respiratory Physiology (cum laude) from the Paris XII University in 2003. 

Since 2002, ICU senior physician at the A. Gemelli University Hospital in Rome and, since 2006, Assistant Professor at the Catholic University of Rome, Italy. Associate Professor of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Chieti since 2015. Teacher in courses on acute respiratory failure, respiratory pathophysiology, and mechanical ventilation for the students of the Medical School and of several Residency Programs at the Catholic University of Rome, at the G. d’Annunzio University of Chieti, Italy, and, previously, at the Paris XII University, France. Main research programs focused on acute respiratory failure, respiratory mechanics, invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support, cardiovascular effects of mechanical ventilation, and ethics in intensive care. 

Prof. Maggiore published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, reviews, editorials and book chapters. He received several awards and grants from the Italian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, the European Respiratory Society, and the American Thoracic Society. He is regularly invited at the main national and international congresses in Intensive Care Medicine. Member of several Scientific Societies (SIAARTI, ESICM). Deputy Editor of the journal “Intensive Care Medicine” (2007-2013) and Chair of the Editorial and Publishing Committee and a member of the Executive Committee the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) (2011-2014). Reviewer for several medical journals, such as The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Chest, Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology, Critical Care, European Respiratory Journal.
