Prof. Dr.
János Gál – President of the Hungarian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive
Therapy, also the Head of Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy
of the prestigious Semmelweis University, Budapest (Hungary) – graduated in
1991 at the Faculty of General Medicine. In 1995 obtained Specialist Medical
Degree in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy and in 2009 Specialist Medical
Degree in Emergency Medicine. He finished his habilitation in 2007.
After some years of being Associate Professor in Hungary, he
joined Oxford Radcliffe Hospital NHS Trust, Oxford, (United Kingdom) as
Consultant Anaesthetist and also Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust,
London, (United Kingdom) as Honorary Consultant.
Joining Semmelweis University in 2007, he became the leader of
the Decentralized Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy Service. One of his
main achievements was to organize the decentralized service and set up a sole
the – Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy. Today it is the
biggest univ. department with over 400 employees and 56 beds.
He’s had major merit in building up the most innovative and
up-to-date new "Korányi" central healthcare building as the leading
venue of the modern patient care with national supply obligation.
Prof. Gál acted as a vice-rector responsible for clinical affairs (2012-2015), now acts as advisor to the rector in international and strategic affairs, and is also Member of the Board of Clinical Centre.
