Dr. Gurman was born in 1939 and graduated from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bucharest, Romania in the year of 1961. He became a Romanian specialist in Anaesthesiology - Critical Care in 1966, a title also recognized in the year 1974 in Israel, two years after his emigration to that country.
In 1976 he created the Critical Care Unit at Rothschild Medical Center, Haifa and the Division of Anaesthesiology -Critical Care at Soroka Medical Center, Beer Sheva in 1986.
Between the years 2000-2004, Dr. Gurman acted as a Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beer Sheva.
He was elected President of the Israel Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA – 1981-1983) and acts as an elected member of the National Council of ISA since 1974.
He was a member of the WFSA Committee for Education between the years 1996-2004 and initiated the Beer Sheva educational project for Eastern Europe young anaesthesiologists (1992-2005) and the International School for Instructors in Anaesthesiology (ISIA – 2006-2012).
Dr. Gurman's main scientific topics of interest include: depth of anaesthesia, professional stress of the anaesthesiologist, prevention of VAP, prevention of one lung intubation, history of anaesthesia. He is author and co-author of more than 130 scientific papers published in peer-review journals.
He is also a writer and publishes in three languages: English, Hebrew and Romanian.
Dr. Gurman was accorded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of five medical universities in Europe.
