DRAGOȘ VINEREANU

Professor Dragoș Vinereanu is currently President of the Senate of the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest, Romania, and head of the Department of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University & Emergency Hospital of Bucharest. He is a graduate of the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest, Romania, since 1990. He has been a member of the Faculty of the University since 1992. For more than 3 years he served as a clinical and research fellow in Cardiology at the University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom. He was an Invited Professor and Scholar Fulbright at the Duke Clinical Research Institute, Duke University, Durham, USA.

His primary research interests are in heart failure, atrial fibrillation, echocardiography, and cardiovascular risk factors, with a focus on tissue Doppler and deformation imaging, diagnosis of subclinical heart disease, and prevention of left ventricular dysfunction. He has been first author or co-author of more than 1000 scientific presentations and more than 300 original full-papers, including papers published in New Engl J Med, Nature Medicine, The Lancet, Circulation, Eur Heart J, etc. He has been an invited speaker for multiple international courses and meetings. He also has contributed chapters to more than 50 medical books, from which 12 were published abroad. He has run or participated in more than 100 clinical trials. He has been national coordinator and member of the Steering Committee for more than 35 clinical trials, and he coordinates multiple national and ESC registries. He is also on the editorial board of 10 medical journals.

He is member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences and the secretary of the Bucharest Section of the Academy, and Corresponding Member of the Romanian Academy.

He was the Chairman of the Working Group of Atherosclerosis and Atherothrombosis of the Romanian Society of Cardiology (2005-2008), Treasurer of the Society (2008-2011), Vice-President of the Society (2011-2014), President of the Society (2017-2020), and he is currently the President of the Romanian Heart Foundation. He is also Fellow of the Royall College of Physicians, Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and member of the CLCD Membership Committee of the American Heart Association.

He has received important national awards, such as the Health Merit Order of the Romanian Presidency, the Distinguished Faculty Award of the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest, the Medical Award of the Romanian Foundation for Art and Sciences of the Romanian Academy, the Award for Excellence in Cardiology of the Medic.ro Publishing House, Ministry of Health and the Romanian College of Physicians, and the Special Award “Iuliu Hațieganu” for research of the Romanian Academy.

He has an Hirsch’s index of 66 (Google Scholar) and 56 (WOS), with more than 20,000 citations.
