Gabriel GURMAN 

Gabriel M. Gurman, MD was born in 1939 and graduated the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bucharest, Romania in the year of 1961. He became a Romanian specialist in Anesthesiology-Critical Care in 1966, a title also recognized in the year 1974 in Israel, two years after his emigration to that country. In 1976 he created the Critical Care Unit at Rothschild Medical Center, Haifa and the Division of Anesthesiology-Critical Care at Soroka Medical Center, Beer Sheva in 1986. Between the year 2000-2004 Dr Gurman acted as a vice dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beer Sheva. He was elected president of the Israel Society of Anesthesiologists (ISA -1981-1983) and acts as an elected member of the National Council of ISA since 1974. He was a member of the WFSA Committee for Education between the years 1996-2004 and initiated the Beer Sheva educational project for Eastern Europe young anesthesiologists (1992-2005) and the International School for Instructors in Anesthesiology (ISIA- 2006-2012). Dr Gurman's main scientific topics of interest include: depth of anesthesia, professional stress of the anesthesiologist, prevention of VAP, prevention of one lung intubation, history of anesthesia. He is author and coauthor of more than 100 scientific papers published in peer review journals. He is also a writer and publishes in three languages: English, Hebrew and Romanian. Dr Gurman was accorded the title of doctor honoris causa of five medical universities in Europe. Present appointments: *Professor Emeritus, Ben Gurion University of the Negev *Medical adviser for the Director of Soroka Medical Center, Beer Sheva *Chairman, Executive Committee of ESCTAIC (The European Society for Computing and Technology in Anesthesia and Critical Care) since October 2012 *Chief Editor, European Society of Anesthesiologists NEWSLETTER(since July 2012).
