Dr. Coselli is the Executive Vice-Chair of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, holds the Cullen Foundation Endowed Chair, and is Professor of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. He serves as Associate Chief of the Cardiovascular Service at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He was Program Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency at THI/BCM for two decades and directs the Aortic Fellowship Program at BCM.
Dr. Coselli specializes in clinical evaluation and surgical treatment of diseases of the aorta, including the aortic valve and root, the ascending aorta, the aortic arch, the descending thoracic aorta, and the thoracoabdominal aorta. He was mentored by the pioneering aortic surgeon, Dr. E. Stanley Crawford, and legendary cardiothoracic surgeons, Drs. Denton A. Cooley, and Michael E. DeBakey. He has performed over 10,000 aortic repairs, including over 3,800 of thoracoabdominal aorta, for which he is world-renowned. He has published more than 600 medical manuscripts and delivered over 950 presentations in more than 39 countries. He has carried out live aortic operations in 11 countries.
Dr. Coselli is an innovator and a leader in his field and is highly experienced in complex aortic repair, such as patients with connective tissue disorders (such as Marfan and Loeys-Dietz syndromes), as well as emergent repair performed in patients with conditions such as acute aortic dissection or aortic rupture.
Dr. Coselli currently serves as a Director of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (2018-2025). He has served as President for several surgical societies, including the Texas Surgical Society (2008), the Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society (2010), the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (2011), the Denton A. Cooley Cardiovascular Surgical Society (2012), and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS, 2015). Currently, he serves as a Director of the Board of the AATS Foundation.
