Carolyn Weiniger MB ChB was born in Hull, UK and lives in Israel, where she is Director of the Obstetric Anesthesia Unit in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Tel Aviv, Israel.
She has authored over 100 original research papers, reviews and chapters, mainly related to safe obstetric anesthesia practices including respiratory depression associated with opioid administration, anesthesia for external cephalic version and placenta accreta spectrum.
She is Editor of the newly published first edition of Principles and Practice of Maternal Critical Care together with Prof. Sharon Einav and Prof. Ruthi Landau. Each of the 40 chapters, authored by an international multidisciplinary team of experts, focuses on the critically ill pregnant or recently pregnant woman, rather than on the pregnancy or the critically ill neonate. The impetus for the book was the mantra "but she's pregnant", that may result in delayed or denied care for the pregnant woman.
Professor Weiniger serves as an Editor of the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia, and Chair of the Obstetric Anaesthesiology Subcommittee of the European Society of Anaesthesiologists, and as a research committee member of SOAP, roles that reflect her specialist clinical practice in Obstetric Anesthesia.
