Adrian W Gelb is Professor (emeritus) in the Department of Anaesthesia & Perioperative Care, University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and previous vice chair. He is currently the President of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiology (WFSA). WFSA is an umbrella organization for 135 national anaesthesia societies.

After training in Cape Town and working in rural South Africa, he immigrated to Canada where he was the Chair of Anaesthesia at the University Western Ontario. He has held leadership roles in multiple national and international Anaesthesia Societies having been the President of 4 societies.

His clinical practice and research have focused on Neuroanaesthesia and his Global Health interests include National Surgical Obstetric & Anaesthesia Planning (NSOAP), Anaesthetic Capacity, and Patient Safety. He works with a number of WHO groups.

Prof. Gelb is an honorary professor at 3 universities, honorary member of 5 national societies, and has received multiple awards for Teaching, Research & Mentorship.
