THEODORos BAMPOURAS


Dr Theodoros (Theo) M. Bampouras holds a Bachelor degree in Sport Science from Coventry University, a Master Degree in Sport and Exercise Science and a Doctorate Degree in Biomechanics from Manchester Metropolitan University.

He has been in various full-time academic posts since 2002 and he is currently a Lecturer in Biomechanics at Lancaster Medical School, Lancaster University, UK and an associate member of the University’s Centre for Ageing Research.

He is also a member of the British Association of Sports and Exercise Sciences Biomechanics and Motor Behaviour Division committee and serves as reviewer for several Journals.

Theo’s main research area is functional ability, postural balance, fall risk and the effect of exercise on those aspects in older adults. He has published work in the areas of balance, gait and vision in healthy older adults as well as work with frail chronic kidney disease patients.

He has also been involved with several successful research grants for projects with older and clinical populations. An overview of his work can be found here - https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8991-4655.

The project he is currently working on is the ‘Educational and training program for older adults at risk of developing dementia through table tennis’ (hAlt), an EU funded project, aiming to explore the ways in which people with dementia can participate in table tennis and develop a suitable programme to support that.

The presentation will cover the development of the project, including outcomes and up-to-date findings.
