Dan L. Stewart, MD is a Professor of Pediatrics and International Pediatrics at the University of Louisville and Norton Children’s Hospital where he is the Medical Director of the ECMO Program.   In addition, he is the past Medical Director of the Level IV NICU (>100 bed NICU) and remains an active participant in patient care, research, and training of residents and neonatal fellows. 

He has authored >100 peer-reviewed publications as well as several book chapters.  He recently completed a 6-year term on the Committee on Fetus and Newborn for the American Academy of Pediatrics.  He is the lead author on two pending publications (clinical report and technical report) in Pediatrics entitled “Point of Care Ultrasound in the NICU”.  He has published on congenital diaphragmatic hernia and is the one of the site PI (principal investigators) in the NoNO (no nitric oxide) Trial which is sponsored by the National Institute of Health.  He works closely with 6 Pediatric surgeons when on service.

Areas of interests include surfactant therapy, different modes of ventilation, nitric oxide, NIRS (near infrared spectroscopy), U/S in the NICU, as well as neonatal resuscitation.

He has been integrally integrated in the growth of neonatology in Romania.
