Stefan DE HERT 

Stefan De Hert received his medical degree at the University of Antwerp, Belgium in 1984. After his anaesthesiology residency training, he accepted a faculty position in the Department of Anaesthesiology of the Antwerp University Hospital and served as vice chairman of this Department and Professor of Anaesthesiology at the University of Antwerp for over 10 years.

From 2007 to 2010, he acted as Professor of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesiology at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Director of the Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesiology at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam.

Presently, he is Professor of Anaesthesiology and Director of Research at the Department of Anaesthesiology of the University Hospital of Ghent.

He has authored and co-authored over 250 articles in peer-reviewed journals and many chapters in different textbooks. He is Executive Section Editor Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and Outcomes of Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Associate Editor of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia  and Editor-in-Chief of the Acta Anaesthesiologica Belgica.

Prof. De Hert acted as chair of the ESAIC Scientific Committee and President of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC). He is currently chair of the Education and Training Committee and member of the Board of Directors of the ESAIC.
