János Gál

Prof. Dr. János Gál – President of the Hungarian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, also the Head of Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy of the prestigious Semmelweis University, Budapest (Hungary) – graduated in 1991 at Faculty of General Medicine.

In 1995, obtained Specialist Medical Degree in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy and in 2009 Specialist Medical Degree in Emergency Medicine. He finished his habilitation in 2007.

After some years of being Associate Professor in Hungary, he joined Oxford Radcliffe Hospital NHS Trust, Oxford, (United Kingdom) as Consultant Anaesthetist and also Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust, London, (United Kingdom) as Honorary Consultant.

Joining the Semmelweis University in 2007, he became the leader of the decentralized anaesthesiology and intensive therapy service. One of his main achievements was to organise the centralised service and set up a sole department; the Department of Aneasthesiology and Intensive Therapy.

Today it is the biggest Univ. department with its over 400 employees and 56 beds. He’s had a major merit in building up the most innovative and up-to-date new „Korányi” new central health-care building as the leading venue of the modern patient care with national supply obligation.

Prof. Gál acted as a Vice-Rector responsible for clinical affairs (2012-2015), now acts as Advisor to the Rector in international and strategic affairs and also a member of the Board of Clinical Centre.
