Benedetta Allegranzi

Benedetta Allegranzi is currently Adjoint Professor at the Global Health Institute and at the Infection Control Programme, Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva.

From 1994 to 2006, she worked as infectious diseases and infection control specialist and assistant professor at the University of Verona, Italy, in Burundi and some other countries. In this period, she did clinical practice, research and teaching on HIV, TB, malaria, infections in critically ill patients, infection control and tropical medicine. She now works at WHO HQ since 2006, as the coordinator of the WHO infection prevention and control Global Unit, with a focus on prevention of healthcare-associated infections and AMR control, especially in low-resource settings, and collaborates with the emergency programme for outbreak response. With her team, she has provided technical support to many countries in all continents and led the development of several new global IPC guidelines and implementation strategies and documents, two global campaigns on injection safety and hand hygiene (in 182 countries). Author or co-author of over 170 scientific publications, over 20 book chapters.
