Maarten Akkerman is Vice President Value-Based Healthcare Europe Middle East & Africa (EMEA) at Medtronic. Maarten is responsible for the Value-Based Healthcare strategy within the EMEA region.
Maarten has more than a decade of experience in the medical industry.Prior to joining Medtronic, Maarten Akkerman held the end responsibility for the procurement for Hospital Care, Primary Care and Mental Healthcare at Zilveren Kruis, which is the largest health insurance company in the Netherlands with almost 6 million clients.
Previously, Maarten Akkerman also spent several years serving as Business Unit Manager at Mediq, having the responsibility of setting up and expanding a national homecare pharmacy concept for biotech medication, developing marketing & commercial strategy and support the business growth.
Maarten’s first role was Sales Representative at Eli Lilly, based in Amsterdam.
Maarten holds a Doctoral in Pharmacy (Major in Clinical Chemistry) and Post-doctoral education as pharmacist from the University of Utrecht (The Netherlands). He holds a diploma in Pharmaceutical Management from the Business school in The Netherlands and Transition to General Management from INSEAD in Fontainebleau (France) and Singapore. Maarten also graduated from the Program for Executive Development at IMD in Lausanne (Switzerland).
Maarten Akkerman is of Dutch nationality. He is fluent in Dutch, English and German with a good knowledge of French language. Maarten now lives in Switzerland with his wife and 2 children.
