Basic surgical skills in laparoscopic surgery

Description:
The participants will learn the principles of laparoscopic surgery, the basic concepts, including ergonomics and safety in the OR, basic notions about the laparoscopic equipment, and the safe use of electrosurgery. They will be instructed how to create the pneumoperitoneum, how to handle the camera and the instruments. They will have the opportunity to develop practical abilities in laparoscopic surgery, including apprehension of objects, coordination, manipulation. Last, but not least, they will gain knowledge about teamwork and communication in the OR.

Laparoscopic suturing and stapling

Description:
The workshop comprises didactic sessions focused on the technical aspects of surgical procedures, followed by hands-on training using a pelvitrainer. Throughout the course, participants will:
- Acquire applied knowledge of trocar placement ergonomics and instrument handling techniques during both manual and mechanical suturing procedures.
- Develop proficiency in the appropriate use and deployment of mechanical stapling devices.
- Enhance bimanual dexterity to effectively perform intracorporeal suturing and knot-tying techniques.
- Practice the execution of side-to-side (latero-lateral) anastomoses using linear staplers on ex vivo tissue models.
- Practice the execution of end-to-side (termino-lateral) anastomoses using circular staplers on ex vivo tissue models.
- Gain the necessary competencies to optimize operative efficiency while minimizing intraoperative risks and complications.

Module 1 - Abdominal Ultrasound
The transcutaneous abdominal ultrasound module, the first built in our platform, offers the surgeon a wide and deep view on the anatomy and pathology of the internal organs. The skills acquired by the trainee will allow him independence and speed in decision making as well as a good control of the postoperative evolution.
At the same time, this module is a foundation for approaching high-specific applications such as intraoperative ultrasound or ultrasound guidance techniques of various surgical procedures associated with minimally invasive surgery.
At the end of the module, the trainee will be able to control ultrasound anatomy, the main measurements and evaluations, pathological features, preoperative and postoperative diagnosis regarding: Liver, Gall bladder, Pancreas, Spleen, Kidney, Digestive Tract @ Abdominal Wall and Abdominal vessels
Module 2 - eFAST
By the end of the eFAST module the trainees will be able to identify:
- Basic ultrasound semiology
- Free fluid in the peritoneal, pleural and pericardial cavities
- Basic ultrasound structure of liver, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder.
And will be able to perform:
- A complete and correct E-FAST exam
- A clinical decision pathway for trauma patients
- Elements of the E-FAST exam for other clinical situations
Module 3 - Ultrasound Guided Procedures
By the end of the Ultrasound Guided Procedures Module, the participants will be able:
-To select the proper biopsy tool for any ultrasound guided biopsy you want to perform
- To handle the samples and biopsy tools correctly
- To perform a correct biopsy of small and large tumor on liver and breast models / cadaver
- To perform a correct biliary drainage on liver models / cadaver
- To perform a paracentesis and thoracentesis under ultrasound guidance
- To recognize the ultrasound biopsy complications and to know how to handle these complications
- To understand the manner of ultrasound support in applications on different organs: Adrenal, Thyroid, Lymphatic system
