Prof. Dr. René Thyrian is a trained psychologist since 1999. After spending some time working as neuropsychologist and working as a researcher in the addiction/ prevention/ behaviour change field, he has joined the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) as a working group leader in 2010.

His current research focuses around people with dementia, careres and the health care system. Together with the members of his research group he is conducting empirical trials to improve the situation of people affected. His research spans from early detection to timely diagnosis, postdiagnostic support and provision of care in the primary care system and he as (co-) authored more than 200 papers in international, peer-reviewed , scientific journals. As board member of the German Alzheimer Society and Alzheimer Europe he follows a participatory, person-centered approach. Regarding the societal challenge of dementia he has been involved in the National Dementia Strategy.
